New Gloucester single-sheet manuscripts, 1859-1874.

Thirty-seven items, including many legal records (deeds, bonds, agreements, declarations of trust, etc.), poetry copybooks, necrology, receipts and extracts reflecting industry, and correspondence, chiefly focusing on business activities, of members of the Shaker community at New Gloucester (Sabbathday Lake), Me. Also includes resolution (24 Mar. 1862) outlining the steps necessary to "stop all leaks", pay outstanding debts, and keep from becoming indebted again; necrology, written by Otis Sawyer, reflecting 23 New Gloucester and Alfred, Me., Shaker brothers who served in the Revolution; covenant (28 Mar. 1863) written by Otis Sawyer, signed and witnessed by community members; address (1868) from the Maine Ministry to the Maine Shakers regarding conduct of trustees, deacons, and business agents; copybooks (1872-1874) containing poetry written by Prudence Stickney as a young girl; and necrology (1873-1898) including names, death dates, and ages.
